How to make a quick and delicious BBQ sauce for any recipe needs.
It’s super easy to make your own BBQ sauce, and I have been making it for many, many years. The stuff you get from the store is fine, but it is often full of sugar.
This barbecue sauce has no processed sugar and instead is very lightly sweetened with only a touch of honey. It’s packed with what you want… flavor!
You could use this BBQ Sauce for making my Bacon BBQ Meatloaf!
To make this BBQ Sauce you will need:
- tomato sauce
- coconut aminos
- honey (omit for keto)
- apple cider vinegar
- balsamic vinegar
- black pepper
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- chili powder
- dry mustard
- smoked paprika
- Ceylon cinnamon
- hickory liquid smoke
- cayenne pepper

What is “liquid smoke”?
Liquid smoke might sound like some sort of chemical-laden concoction, but it is actually a natural product made from condensing the smoke from burning wood.
When the fire burns, it creates smoke and steam. That smokey vapor is captured and taken through a process of being cooled and distilled.
Any impurities are removed, like soot or ash. And what is left? Flavor.
Liquid smoke is literally nothing but the wonderful flavor of a toasty hickory or other wood campfire, right in a bottle. But without the campfire.
Now you do need to read the bottle and check the ingredients, because not all liquid smoke brands are created equal. Some add salt, vinegar, molasses or artificial coloring. Look for a natural brand.
Making this sauce is as simple as adding your ingredients to a saucepan, whisking them together and simmering the sauce to perfection!

- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1/4 c coconut aminos
- 2 Tb honey (omit for keto)
- 2 Tb apple cider vinegar
- 2 Tb balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp hickory liquid smoke
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (you can add more if you like a spicy sauce)
- Combine all of the ingredients in a saucepan.
- Whisk until smooth.
- Bring the sauce to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove it from the heat, and allow it to cool.
- Use your BBQ sauce any way you like!
